Night Light | Comedy's Comeback
Reed of the Week
Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of 2 Bears, 1 Cave with Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura on TikTok. It got me thinking about the top of funnel for podcasts, more specifically podcasts with stand-up comedians. Andrew Schulz, Matt Rife, and Theo Von have been blowing up recently, with Von selling out 7 shows at a single venue in Austin. I remember him from his early days on MTV’s Road Rules, but why are we all seeing him all over our FYP now?
The “comedy” hashtag on TikTok has more than 2 trillion views making it a top 10 hashtag on the platform. More than fashion, food, and even music. We talk a lot about social media algorithms, but I think TikTok does extremely well serving the right kind of humor to people who might find it funny. TikTok understands our humor, and it matches it with comedians in those niche comedy spaces.
I’d bet that the stand-up boom isn’t going away anytime soon.
