Everyone bear with me here, this has been a topic of discussion inside our office, so I wanted to give a bit of context on aura farming. Part of the reason I wanted to talk about it this week is because of all the viral Indonesian boat race videos I can’t stop seeing on social media.

Farming aura at the Indonesian boat races.

So what is aura farming?

Aura is the vibe that a person gives off. Farming, a video game term, comes from repeatedly doing something to achieve a specific outcome.

Aura farming refers to people who are constantly trying to create aura moments, usually by trying to look cool.

Farming aura has also led to another phrase you may not have heard: clip farming. Clip farming means manufacturing viral internet moments by doing something designed to be clipped and shared across social media.

Why Is Aura Farming Important?

The goal with aura farming is to eventually have max aura, the highest amount of aura that someone can have. When I think of people who have max aura, I think of Duke Dennis, Hasbulla, and Darth Vader. Some people make it look effortless. They’re naturally associated with aura and have been farming for years without even realizing it.

Aura farming is huge in anime communities right now, Piccolo is a fan favorite.

Aura Is Built Through Clip Farming

One of the biggest trends to pay attention to right now is clip farming, or purposely manufacturing moments to get clipped and posted online. What ends up happening is that creators and celebrities with high aura get clipped way more than those with low aura.

Kai Cenat, IShowSpeed, and Duke get clipped organically all the time. Accounts across social media post them without any effort on their part.

But there are also people who have lost so much aura that they fall into negative aura. They still get clipped just as much, but for all the wrong reasons.

IShowSpeed has been known to have high levels of aura

When people watch your content, they either see you as having aura or not. For younger generations, this has become a new way of judging whether someone is cool or lame.

The Big Takeaway

Hopefully you don’t all feel too old, because after writing that, I feel like a boomer. Aura has clearly become this generation’s word for cool, and you either have it or you don’t. Some people will try to farm aura and succeed. Others will fail and tank their social credit score. The people with the highest aura, or max aura, are the ones who get clipped the most.
